Visions: How Science Will Revolutionize the 21st Century
By Michio Kaku

Anchor Books, 1998
ISBN 0-385-48499-2

Michio Kaku, an internationally recognized authority in theoretical physics and also the environment, is a professor of theoretical Physics at the City College and Graduate Center of City University in New York. In preparation for writing this book, he interviewed over 150 scientists over a ten year period in his attempt to predict the fast-moving developments that will take place in computer technologies that are already transforming education, business, communities and lifestyles. In this remarkable book he also considers the biomolecular revolution already underway as well as the revolution brought about by quantum theory, which he believes will give us greater control over nature itself.

Kaku concludes his book by writing, "We are no longer passive observers to the dance of nature; we are in the process of becoming active choreographers. With the basic laws of the quantum, DNA, and computers discovered, we are now embarking on a journey that promises to take us to the stars."

Visions is fascinating reading for anyone interested in the scientific revolution taking place in the world around us. It will be of special interest to science, physics, and technology teachers who must prepare their students for new fields that are emerging at a rapid pace, and ones we cannot yet imagine.
