Project Description:
The project involves the integration of team teachers and block periods of core subjects in Language Arts, Social Studies, and Science. In class support with small group instruction. Grade level teams with common planning time. Planning time is used for integration of units, monitoring and sharing student progress, and planning and evaluating IEP goals and objectives.

Challenges:
Challenges include time to collaborate and plan; lack of knowledge/skills to serve special ed. students academically and behaviorally; unreasonable expectations; feeling of inadequacy to meet student needs; and concerns about the adverse effect on general ed. students.

Needs:
Needs include release time for grade level planning and teaming; more information on best practices for special ed.; inservice for curricular adaptations; increased accessibility/integration of technology with curriculum; and to utilize teaming and integration of curriculum.

Strengths of Site:
Strengths of site include grade level teaming and planning within their integrated block schedule. Strong transition component with elementary and high school as part of their advisory committee. Strong community based curriculum and service learning opportunities.

Evaluation:
Evaluation of student outcomes will be focused on reading and written language.
