Teacher: The One Who Made a Difference
by Marc Edmundson
Vintage, 2003
ISBN: 0375708545

Edmundson, professor of English at the University of Virginia, has written a heart-warming tribute to a man who changed the course of his life. Many of us can look back and reflect on the people in our lives who made a difference. Marc credits Frank Lears, a philosophy teacher who stormed onto the scene of Medford High and challenged his students to think by asking provoking questions about the Vietnam War, civil rights, conformity and authority. The vignettes are powerful and will remind us all of those special people in our past. We need to hear stories like to remind us of the magic that can occur with the right teacher.
