Classroom Management: the Dance of the Dolphin
by  Mark Kennedy
Brandon, VT:  Holistic Education Press, 2004
ISBN: 1885580177

The author is an alternative education "teacher of the year" in California, and an adjunct professor of education at Chapman University. He is dedicated to and has had remarkable success in helping students with the most challenging problems. Kennedy follows his last book, Lessons from the Hawk, with this inspiring book on how to create democratic classrooms where all students have opportunities to practice leadership within a learning community.

He describes critical characteristics that must be modeled by the exemplary teacher leader/follower to make this possible, as well as characteristics that student leaders must develop. The book is filled with practical suggestions and beautiful examples drawn from Kennedy's rich experience. Teachers at all levels will find this an enormously useful and inspiring handbook.
