Romances With Schools: A Life of Education
John I. Goodlad
McGraw-Hill, 2004
ISBN: 0-07-143212-4John Goodlad, President of the Institute for Educational Enquiry in Seattle and author of A Place Called School has written a moving, informative, and inspiring book about his more than sixty years in education. His story begins with his own education just before the Depression, describes his career as the teacher in a one-room schoolhouse, his many years as an activist in education reform and founding of the Englewood Project, his years as Dean of the Graduate School of Education at UCLA, and his continuing years devoted to educational renewal. Along the way we meet many of the people who influenced his life and work, and we read of his concerns about the current plight of education with its emphasis on tracking and standardized testing.
This is a wonderful book to read during the summer for your own educational renewal!
