The Results Fieldbook: Practical Strategies from Dramatically Improved Schools
by Mike Schmoker
ASCD, 2001
ISBN: 0-87120-521-1

Mike Schmoker has written a valuable resource on school transformation based on his experiences as a school improvement consultant and former senior consultant for Mid-Continent Regional Educational Laboratory. He cites what happened in five school districts as teachers and school administrators overcame obstacles and helped all their students to improve their academic achievement.

Schmoker describes how essential practices such as teamwork, the application of achievement data, and planning for measurable goals made an immediate difference in the schools. Teachers who had not been used to sharing their teaching practices, methods of assessment, and the results of their work began collaborating exciting ways. They are described in vignettes written by the practitioners themselves.

The book also includes many ideas and forms for identifying school goals, creating brainstorming guides, and developing ongoing team logs that include both problems and solutions.

This is a really practical handbook for all those involved in improving school climate and student learning.
